Questions before you install?

Google's extension only toggles debug_mode so hits appear in DebugView. It shows no payload data, no dataLayer, and no errors. GA4 Live Debugger gives you full structured inspection, push-to-hit correlation, consent decoding, automated audits, and export.

Yes. Every hit gets a routing badge: Client-Side, GTG (Google Tag Gateway), sGTM 1P, sGTM Provider, or sGTM Self. The correlation engine also identifies which hits originated from a DataLayer push (GTM) versus those that fired without one (typically hardcoded gtag calls).

No. Everything runs locally in your browser. No servers, no databases, no usage tracking. Your payloads never leave your machine.

Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Both share the same Chromium engine, so the extension works identically on each.

Two places. Click the extension icon (or press Alt+Shift+D) to open the Side Panel alongside any page. Or open Chrome DevTools and find the GA4 Live Debugger tab for a full-width panel while you work in Elements or Network. Both views show the same data.

Yes. Completely free, no premium tier, no accounts, no limits.

GA4 Live Debugger is built specifically for Google Analytics 4 (GA4). It intercepts the /collect endpoint used by GA4 and gtag.js. It does not support Universal Analytics (UA) properties, which were sunset in 2024.

Yes. Since Edge is Chromium-based, the extension works identically on both Chrome and Edge. Install it directly from the Chrome Web Store in Edge.
