Privacy Policy for GA4 Optimizer
Effective Date: July 9, 2026
Thank you for using GA4 Optimizer (the "Extension"), a free tool created by an individual developer to help Google Analytics users speed up their insight gathering. Your privacy is very important to us. This policy outlines how the Extension handles information.
1. About This Extension & Your Privacy
GA4 Optimizer is a free browser extension created by an individual developer to help you work more efficiently with Google Analytics 4. Your privacy is the top priority. This Extension does not collect, transmit, or share any of your personal data or your Google Analytics data. All operations and data storage are performed strictly locally within your browser.
2. Information We Don't Collect or Transmit
To be clear, the Extension does not collect, transmit, or share data with our servers or any third parties. Specifically, we do not transmit:
- Your personal information (name, email, IP address, etc.).
- Your Google Analytics account data or property structures.
- Your general browsing history.
- Analytics about your use of the Extension itself.
3. How the Extension Uses Information Locally
The Extension must temporarily access and store certain information strictly locally on your device to function. This information never leaves your computer via the Extension:
- Email Addresses (Account Switcher): To help you navigate "Missing Permissions" errors, the Extension temporarily reads the email addresses of the Google Accounts you are currently logged into and stores them in your browser's local/session storage to display the Account Switcher UI.
- Settings & Configuration Storage: The Extension uses standard Browser Storage APIs (
storage.sync,storage.local, andlocalStorage) to save your preferences, custom calculated metrics, and layout states. - External Fetches (Team Sync): If you use the "Team Sync" or "Data Dictionary" features, the Extension will make localized network requests (fetches) to the specific URLs you provide (e.g., Google Sheets or GitHub) to import your team's configuration.
- Clipboard Access: The "Click to Copy" and "Share Link" features require permission to write to your clipboard to copy text and URLs.
- Real-time Page Interaction: To make its features work, the Extension interacts with the DOM content of the GA4 pages you are currently viewing entirely within your browser.
4. Permissions We Request
The Extension requests the following permissions to operate:
- storage: To save your feature preferences locally.
- tabs: To interact with your active Google Analytics tab.
- clipboardWrite: To enable click-to-copy functionalities.
- Host Permissions (
https://analytics.google.com/*): Essential for the Extension to operate on and modify Google Analytics 4 pages. - Optional Host Permissions: If you use the Team Sync or Data Dictionary features, the extension will request optional permissions to access the specific external domains you provide (e.g., docs.google.com) to download your configurations.
5. Data Sharing
Since no personal data is collected or transmitted off-device by the developer, no data is shared with or sold to any third parties.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by an updated "Effective Date" at the top of this policy.
